Billie Davies & The Billie Davies Band: About The Music.
Billie Davies & The Billie Davies Band: About The Music.
The Billie Davies Band is bringing something radically new to the idiom of modern jazz in various ways which, in its purest essence, incorporates everything in its collective subconscious amalgam that has come before.
It draws influences and ideas from both classical music and jazz in a modern and unique way which would appeal to audiences and aficionados of both these types of music. Besides these two major exponents it also encompasses what’s referred to as “world music” (Indian, African, Middle Eastern, Asian, South American and European ethnic music)
As with most jazz and classical music, every new style or period is a clear, direct reaction against the movement which has come before and often draws from a period prior to the movement it rebels against.
Contemporary jazz has taken the form of extreme dense harmonic development, parallel chord movements, very advanced rhythms, odd meters and an almost “inside only” improvisation, a primarily right brain, academic approach. The music of the Billie Davies band can be said to have an element of rebellion and simplification, similar to the abstract CoBrA art movement, which painters decided to express themselves through colors rather than objects.
In abstract painting the look and feel of a piece is what’s important and viewing the piece with an analytical mind set does not work. The art happens when a piece prompts a reaction, good or bad, the individual experience is what’s important. A surrealist piece can stand on its own due to the fact that it is based on objects which can be analyzed. An expressionist piece cannot.
For this type of art to exist a piece needs to be viewed whereas a musical piece needs to be performed and listened to.

The Very Final Line-up for The Billie Davies Band.
I know, I know, you will be saying that we change all the time, ... but, did you not want to know the process, the evolution, the musical growth of The Billie Davies Band...everything else, from flowers to birds change everyday... :)
Well, here is another update...
Jacob Joon somehow could not make our cut either a week or so into it to both Daniel and my surprise, so we went on a search for another "different" bass player and, so I am very happy to announce that we actually have found, coming out of the blue..., the perfect Bass for this music in ADAM LEVY.
THE VERY FINAL LINE-UP FOR THE BILLIE DAVIES BAND.
Billie Davies- drums
Daniel Coffeng- guitar
Adam Levy- bass
... this time I know we have found each other. My calling has been answered, and the answer came in the shape of Billie Davies- Drums, from Brugge, Daniel Coffeng- Guitar, from Amsterdam, Adam Levy- Bass, from Tampa.
Daniel and I came to the US in search of the roots of Jazz, following a calling, something we could not find somehow in Europe. We felt an energy driving us here and we had somehow no choice but to follow it, and maybe that energy has now manifested itself and completed its purpose, as both of us found ourselves here in L.A. and found each other actually feeling good, happy, constructive, renewed, reborn through our music as we started playing together.
Daniel and I communicate so well together and Adam joined that communication easily and definitely comes up with a nice and solid bass sound for our music... So, here we are, closer then ever before to the music we love to play so so so much... a dream come true.. and so much more to learn.
Ad to that the affinities of my husband, Mike Davies in recording and sound technology and we have the perfect team to complete our message in this life, after all Daniel and I had heard that message way back in Europe...

“LOUD AND CLEAR”
What Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins
accomplished in “The Shape of Jazz to Come” was not in vain, I and others heard
it!!!
“LOUD AND CLEAR”
It was their roots, It is our roots, answering, calling, and continuing the
Mission of Art in Jazz, Art in Music, of liberating the notes to be free and the sounds to be
re-invented, re-explored, so that others will hear and see and may feel the
ROOTS!!
So that others may IDENTIFY with it. As We Did.
So that this extremely FREE, Heart Beating, Soul Searching, Mind Bending
form of FINE ART through the medium of MUSIC... be still here
after WE are gone...
UNCONSTRAINED by DOGMA, POLITICS, FASHION, TRENDS, aND mONEY.
“LOUD AND CLEAR”
