Billie Davies Mentionned As One Of What Jazz Fuel Considers Iconic Women Drummers

Image
Billie Davies had no idea she was mentionned as one of what Jazz Fuel considers iconic women drummers #iconicwomendrummers Thank you Jazz Fuel for noticing #BillieDavies and making her feel she's in good company. The article seems to be from early 2023 written by Isabel Marquez. https://jazzfuel.com /best-female-drummers/ Women in jazz may have been under-represented in the history books, but things are quite rightly changing. In this article, writer Isabel Marquez highlights a selection of the best female drummers, both from past eras and the modern jazz scene.  Of course, the list could go on, so feel free to use the comments section at the end! The drums are one of the main instruments that exist under clear gender stereotypes and categorization. Compared to the number of women who take up the drums, the sheer number of their male counterparts is overwhelming. Simply typing ‘Drummers’ into Google will generate a long list of male musicians, with less regard for the great ...

"Whadeva" It had not reached New Orleans yet, or so they thought. They had been prepping these recordings since late December, early January. Damani Butler contacted Billie Davies and Maude Caillat asking them whether they would be interested in doing a project with him. He also mentioned he had contacted female artists for this project. Both Billie Davies, an american drummer from California, and Maude Caillat, a sax player from Switzerland, were currently working and residing in New Orleans. Damani had rented a house in the Lower Ninth Ward, which became Dangerous Art Studios, and was busy transforming it into the whole house and whatever sounds in it, showed in it and whomever entered it, being part of a work of art he was creating. The project would be experimental, completely improvisational audio art. Intuitive, instinctive in nature Damani would be doing his electronic loops, beats and waves while Caillat and Davies played whatever they played. Billie decided to use he...

DownBeat | Digital Edition | May 2016 BILLIE DAVIES... 'Twenty Years Stronger' Mar 31, 2016 e on LinkedIn Share on Facebook Share on Twitter From  Down Beat   magazine, the monthly "bible" of jazz, blues, and roots music. May 2016 issue.   Article written by Jennifer Odell. Billie Davies, a Belgium-born drummer whose career path has been as avant-gar- de as her music, had an existential crisis of sorts before she returned to drumming full- time in 2009. She’d been working in Northern California as an art dealer—one of many hats that have ranged from DJ to gypsy musician to information architecture IT specialist—when it occurred to her she wasn’t sure who she was anymore. Distraught, she picked up the phone and called Serge Vandercam (1924–2005), a Danish visual artist with whom she’d bonded, for advice. “I just go, ‘Who am I?’” Davies recalled, her voice cracking as if stuck halfway between the onset of laughter or tears. Vandercam’s reply was te...
